    windows defender

Filter is the first start-up program i've ever had this problem with, so i don't know much about it... Every time Vista loads, it blocks the Updater from running; when i tried to figure out how to "allow" it permanently, the only advice MS has for me is to "contact the vendor and see if there is a newer version."

so, i continue to manually load Filter and "allow" it to run every time i boot.

Hmm, I believe Vista does this to every startup item until it's figured out what it is.

I'll have a look though and see if I can find out more.

Sorry, I've had real pain with Vista too, believe me :(

    Cheers,

Hmm, just tried a fresh install and reboot on this Vista laptop here and it started fine. Odd. Will try on another machine and get back to you.

    Re: windows defender

Grrr, tried it on my desktop machine and it thinks the AutoUpdater.exe requires administrator privileges - that would cause it to get blocked by defender on startup.

Both are running the same version of Vista?!

Will try and sort it out...

    Re: windows defender

Ok, no idea why the two installations are behaving differently but have sorted it. My desktop machine (and your installation) seem to automagically think that something called "AutoUpdater.exe" requires a user escalation. Have changed the name of the executable to AppChecker and the issue goes away :) Will post here when I send a new build up. You'll probably have to uninstall and reinstall, since the auto updating will not sort out your startup items. What a pain eh? Cheers, Westy

    Re: windows defender

     Hi there,

Have addressed this issue, so Vista should not block our application on startup anymore.

Unfortunately, whilst it will auto-update to the latest version, to get the "correct" startup behaviour you'll have to grab the latest installer, uninstall and reinstall, preserving your current Filter data.

If you experience any further issues, oir have any comments please feel free to post them :)

    Cheers,

    Westy
