Hmmm, I've just installed the filter tool and I'm not getting any indication from it that it's doing anything. No popup or tooltip. Running on Vista SP1 and iTunes (latest version). What happened to all the functionality that was in the last Filter tool? i.e. creating playlists etc... Would be a HUGE pity to lose that... 

yeah....I don't think I would have "upgraded" had I known I would lose the ability to build playlists...it was my favorite part of using The Filter.

HUGE step backwards if its gone. 

 and no tooltips/popups here either...running latest iTunes and XP

 ETA:  Not sure if it was a restart of The Filter or my having rated some of the music on The Filter....but the pop ups seem to be working, now....

The current Windows client uploads details on your music library to the server, and details on tracks played to improve your recommendations on the website.

Playlist generation functionality is going to be restored, fear not :)

The old client will still work for you in the meantime; you can have both installed side-by-side...

I just saw a tooltip! I think the problem may be that they are not coming to the front, i.e. if you have any windows open you won't see it. 

Hehe, you should get a notification when a track gets recorded as played.

It should appear in front of other windows, although sounds like there may be a bug there.

Perhaps I'll think about some kind of progress display for library upload aswell...

I'm having same problem.  I have Vista x32 (not x64) with SP1 installed, and I have yet to see any indication that it has detected anything.  I've searched the site for ideas and have run out.  I ensured I was logged-in, added all conceivable music libraries (primary one is on a local networked computer), and even added the location for the Windows Media Player library file (in case that's the music library referred to).  No luck yet, but anxiously awaiting any update as I was thoroughly impressed with the prior version, which I'm glad to hear can run side-by-side with this new client.

FWIW, I am running Avast Home 8.0 antivirus, have LastFM scrobbling enabled (I'm a recommendation tool freak), and for the life of me can't think of anything else tha might conflict.  I'd be happy to submit any logging that may be of use... just let me know.

 I must admit I am looking forward to some of the old filters 2x features reappearing. I miss being able to customise playlists (length, preferences and skipped songs get removed.)

Don't worry, it will be processing your library. We took the decision not to feed this back to the user, although it's looking like that will change in the future.

I'm looking forward to implementing them... not sure on timescales yet though, sorry.
