Attempting to install Filter triggers spyware

I run a piece of software called StopZilla which prevents the installation of SPyware and other such nicities.  It blocks the installation of Media_codec.D calling it spyware.  I will wait to hear from you before attempting to further install Filter.

    Regards

    Mike

Re: Attempting to install Filter triggers spyware

    Hi there,

In order to improve your recommendations the Filter client uploads details of your music library (from locations you select) to our server, so we know what you own (i.e. like). It also, if enabled, uploads information whenever you play a track so we know what you're currently into.

This is what the client, at present, is for, and it makes no secret of that fact.

Spyware is software that does something without the users consent or knowledge.

    Hope this helps,

    Westy

Oh, and have no idea what Media_codec.D is...

I'd guess that's something that your media player is trying to install not the Filter?

    Got any more information?

    Hi Westy,

Thanks for your reply.  Stopzilla is seeing the the Filter as spyware.  I think you need to discuss this with the anti-virus and spyware vendors.  It will cause you great heartache if this product goes live and well known software is reporting you as malware.

I fully understand what the filter does and was trying to install it.  Thought problem reporting was what betas were for.

    Regards

    Mike

OK I see from my original post that I may have confused you.  Stopzilla is stoping the installation of The Filter and calling it Media-Codc.D when it reports the virus.

    Hi Mike,

Oh, sorry if my tone seemed off; it was unintentional... was merely trying to explain what the client does :)

Hmm, that's even stranger that it thought it was a virus. Will look into it further.

    Thanks for the report,

    Westy

If you ar egoing to talk to teh folks at Stopzilla, the version i am using is 5.0.7.1 and teh definition fle is 5.0.10.18.  I saw where a map program had similar problems.  The folks at Stopzilla fixed it overnight after they talked to them.

Re: Attempting to install Filter triggers spyware

Thanks for this info. We have put in a formal request to be removed our client from their StopZilla blacklist. It's a little odd considering our previous client was verified as not spyware by a reputable online source. We will get this version verified as well once it comes out of test.

This is why I like the death penalty for spammers, hackers and other cyber ner-do-wells!  Actually maybe we could just cut off the there fingers and tongue so they couldn't interface with a computer anymore.

I have a coupe hundred dollars a year invested in software to protect me from CYBERJERKS.  And you and I have spent our valuable time solving a problem that shouldn't exist.

    Thanks

I just updated the Stopzilla program and it no longer treats the filter as Spyware!  HooRay!

Re: Attempting to install Filter triggers spyware - Problem Solved

Good news! Either they are incredible quick (and haven't told us yet) or this problem was happening to a lot of people and a bug has been fixed.

Thanks for giving feedback on this!
