First of all, let me say that I owned the old filter, and although it crashed my computer every time (probably my computer's fault), I continued to use it regularly because I thought the idea was so neat. Therefore, it saddened me when I went to your redesigned site and discovered how little emphasis there was on the original playlist-creating idea. I really don't need another version of last.fm. Netflix already informs me of what movies I like, and facebook does an excellent job of reassuring me that I have friends. Of course, I should be able to ignore the parts of the new filter that I don't like and be just fine, however, there are still a couple of issues I have with the music section of the new filter.
I really enjoyed the application. I liked that it could create playlists, recommend music, and give me information about the artist I was listening to without me having to even open firefox. I found that very conveniant. I also found the sliders kind of difficult to deal with and very very slow. It also seemed that your recommendation service, both the one on your site and the playlist function in the application, are much worse than they were before. Of course, this could be completely arbitrary and have nothing to do with your enhancements to the concept. And finally, I really didn't like the boxes you can check saying you own an album. Like many others have remarked upon, maybe I don't own an album but just don't want it to be recommended to me. I don't want to lie...
I realize I'm sounding overwhelmingly negative, but there are things about the new filter I do like. I like that there's more emphasis on recommending new music, that's cool. I like that it doesn't crash my computer. I just wish that you made the iTunes add-on a bit more extensive like the old application was.
