old user, new version = do not want

I signed on with The Filter long ago (I was telling friends about in in October '06). I liked the old black application. I liked it a lot. I have a fairly large (20,000 mp3s) music collection, and its promise to bring up old/ forogtten music was wonderful.

My computer recently died due to an electrical short, and when I got my new computer, I came here to reinstall the program. Everything I loved about the old program is gone. It's ridiculous. The playlist option is a joke. I've gotten at maximum 2 songs (edit: I just got 1 with 3!) on a list. I can't change the length of the list. I keep getting errors that say there are no recommended songs.

Forget it. Too much of a pain in the ass. I don't have the old version downloaded anywhere, but if I did? I would use that. Because this white version is useless.

Hi, sorry you don't like the new client.

You are right that a lot of the compelling features from it were dropped, and I'm sorry about that. The fact that it's not generating great playlists is a bug though (it was affected by a change to recommendations on the website), and we're fixing that at the moment, so another version is coming soon...

You can still grab the old version, it's just not linked to anywhere.

    Grab the setup from here

A few of the features were broken the last time I tried it however, again due to changes on our server-side, but the core is still up and running. Afraid we have stopped development on it now, but I hope to reintroduce some of its features to the new client in the future.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Westy

    Hi all,

I'm on the same mood for the new client.

I've asked to reintroduce (at least) the remove-on-skip feature as well as autoexpanding. I see there's been a change in the philosophy of this project and I don't see a different use other than the client one.

This is my personal position but I think many other old users like me are demanding the old client features. I've always thought that removing-on-skip was a kind of "autolearning" feature but it's not, am I right?

    Thank you and regards...

    Sandro

    Hi,

Auto-extending of playlists is what I'm about to try and put back in... there are a few problems to due with the fact that the new client uses the server for recs (the old one used to do them locally), but sure I'll crack it.

Forgot about the remove on skip feature... I'll add it to the future list as a desired feature.

We did used to report the skips to the server, with the aim of using the knowledge in future recs, but am not sure it was ever plugged in as such. It would be easier to plug in now days though, with our influence clouds...

Hoping for a client release next week with better recommendations in, and auto-extend, so watch this space.

    Cheers,

    Westy
